$340k for a Walkinshaw is stupid. Especially one thats nothing more than an ornament.
These things were meant to be driven.
#001 and #149 thankfully spent time on the road, taken on holidays and even driven in anger.
Sad we wont really see these on the road any more

Not stupid at all mate, well actually it probably is, but it's just the way things are going,....you saw the A9X "SEDAN" the other day at $365K???!!!.....We sold ours 30 yrs ago for $13K with under 20ks on it!!
If you're interested in classic cars/this sort of stuff, go to the newsagent & buy a copy of the UK magazine "Íctane" and check out the absolutely INSANE prices they get for their classics.
We are "Babes in the wood" compared to them, although we've been doing ok on Phase 111s now for a while haven't we,...new price in 1971, $5.2K.,......what are they worth now?
Group As like the one are just catching up,.....they will go higher. Coupe 4 & the W427 are starting to go up,..just watch.
I know people buying this stuff for their self managed super fund!!...How does that work?
    Regards, Pickles.

    Agreed Pickles.
I just find it a shame they go this way. But at the same time i do like that these things have appreciated in value.
I guess they were originally for the wealthy and have returned to that.

Part of me wishes I had the Group A cars when i had kids so they meant more to me, i probably would have kept one then, or the VP GTS.

My kids are still young (6 & 8 ) and enjoy my cars as much as I do.
We did 4000km drive holiday in the EL GT late last year and will drive it from north Qld to Adelaide next year for the GT Nationals, mid year we will take the R8 to Darwin for a holiday too.

I want these cars to be more to me and my family than cars hidden in a garage and never see the light of day. I want them to remember good times with them so its more than a car.

I had an LX SS hatch years ago, unfortunately i sold it and bought a sound system for my VN SS with the money. Not the smartest thing I've ever done but also not the dumbest

Mine was only a 253 LX SS with 4 speed manual. Had the full A9X kit including bonnet scoop.
Royal Plum metallic (purple) with black bonnet etc. Looked and sounded a lot tougher than it was.

I would hate to hear the dumb things you've done then?????

But you're right in what you say about using the cars - memories are made with them
& they (the cars) become a family member and treated as such....

    .
When I sold it I could pretty much buy another one for the same money so it wasnt a biggy. I bought it for $4000 & blew the diff in it then sold it for $4500 a few months later.
Wasting the money in the VN SS was the dumb thing. It was only 4 years old (phoenix red manual with power mirrors/ windows).
