I suppose on what the owner wants out of the car.
Some owners will baby them over their whole ownership, never hitting the redline.
Other owners who have bought them to drive them will bury the right foot leaving the dealer.
I had mine on the track with odo showing 600 km's.

I took my LSA to Mallala and it had 1200km's on the clock ahaha.

Don't over rev them and don't labour them!! That's my theory.

Changing subject, what is the "new bimodal setup" on the 2017 plate hsv's?

Haha, and then there's the group who bought them to drive but will run them in first....and then hit the red line. It's just good practice. And proper engine builders like AMG (and GM) agree.

This is my first HSV so don't have anything to compare but from what I've read the 'recalibrated' bimodal exhaust leaves the valve open, for more noise, longer and more often.

I've been pushing spanners since 1977, and I've always "run em in" the way I intended to drive them.
Especially these days with roller cams etc. You bed them in in the first hour of starting up, after that
    go for broke.
Why do you think red line will hurt them???
Once the rings have bed in, there's nothing else that happens.
What, you think the big ends or mains have to bed in???
Do you think the crank has to settle before a big rev???
These engine are good to go out of the box - that's just my opinion.....

I get it mate and it's not a competition. That said I've been on the tools for a while too building classic race bike engines that will tip me on my lid when it goes wrong.
I don't know too much about performance V8s so will leave it to the experts. If HSV and AMG say you should run it in then that's what I'll do. That's not opinion, that's fact.
