Like most things I always research before I buy and oil is no exception. I was put off Nulon a few years ago when an 'independent ' tuner ran up different oils to see which one made the most power. During the video the fan was set way back but during the Nulon run the fan was sitting almost to the grill. The whole video stank of bullshit, right or wrong it put me off Nulon forever.

Strangely I have noticed when running Royal Purple my engine seems to rev nicer. In my head I'm sure.

I thought Full synthetic is recommended?

I have tried it only twice thank god... VY Clubbie and again with the VE II SSV (coz I had been told it had changed)
5W-30 Nulon is crap... both times it lasted 1/2 hr (LOUD sewing machine + rattly rocker noises)while I drove down to the local Repco and got 6 litres of something else (anything else.) and drove home and replaced it I have spoken to guys in the car club, to racers, to guys involved in the auto repair trade and the answer is always... nup don't waste ya $
    Once again, really interesting.
You are the only person I've ever heard speak this way about Nulon.

I suppose we can only speak about our own personal experiences.
My personal experience is it has never let me down, or any of my customers.

My guess is that the "experts" believe that a bit of mineral is a good thing for a boosted engine.
My car has 118xxxkm and going strong. Its never been Drag Raced but has done plenty of Roll Racing and spritited driving.
I guess the proof is in the pudding.

Same here, never heard anyone being disappointed with Nulon. Could it be climate?
I respect Smitty and always tune in when he is posting.
Personal experience is the key - nothing but good reports from my camp.

[QUOTE=Smitty;182100]Nulon oils have no great rep in the auto trade down here... too many reports of rattly engines for my liking

+1 Smitty. I'm happy with my Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG 5W30. Dexos 2 and Bob the Oil Guy believes it to be the best oil in the world. Expensive but good

For T56 gearbox oil I'd ring and ask Mal Wood. He does use a Castrol oil but he too stopped using the Transmax Z too.

I spoke to Mal Woods about my TR6060 and he said to STOP using anything but Dexion 111

Thats really interesting because i changed to Nulon after running Penrite in my old VY SS. The Penrite made it sound like a sewing machine but the Nulon after swapping out the Penrite made it nice and quiet.

Yep I rang them this morning, they said to use nothing but Dex iii. Said transmax Z changed formula and it's detrimental to the T56

Just bought some Nulon 5w30, will let you all know how it goes. Will get sent off for analysis at 7,500km providing it's not noisy after the change.
