E3 - remove head unit fascia

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can give me instructions on how to remove the front fascia/head unit for the E3 stereo.
I've seen E1/E2, but the E3 seems like a different design and you can't just lift it off.

    Appreciate diagrams/pics if available.

    Thanks!

    This might help. http://www.carmodder.com/view_doc.ph...78&model_id=19

I used this as a guide when taking out the binnicle gauges to get repaired. Scroll through the page and it'll give you step by step instructions with pics to help.

    Thanks for the replies.

I had come across that thread, but that had the easy lift off front panel model (noting the stereo panel was already removed in the pics), whereas I think our E3 requires plastic bits removed before we can remove it.

Sapper - definitely appreciate if you can advise if I need to remove glovebox/drivers side and then the centre transmission bits before I can lift off the stereo fascia (sounds like a massive change in complexity going to E3 compared to previous models).

I think I have a loose connection on the stereo fascia, so want to take it off and give the connections a clean.

you wont need to remove as much as you mentioned.

i installed an IQ unit in my E1 recently using this guide, you could start at the end and work backwards as a guide.
only need to remove the shifter surround to get to some screws, and you wont need to remove the glovebox or under the steering wheel, just the dash spears to get to 2 of the screw.

if you get stuck, let me know... mine's still relatively in bits.

Hey Sapper, I'm happy to have a go myself if there are basic instructions - I just figure the removal of the side supports on the centre console seems a bit much (especially compared to instructions for the previous models).
I am located in Sydney, in the Chatswood area.

So from what I can gather (and correct me if I am wrong), I need to do the following
    a) remove the 2 alloy strips above glove box and driver side
    b) undo screws and remove globe box
    c) remove side panels on driver and passenger side
    d) remove the top centre speaker cover and undo a couple of screws
    e) find and remove screws holding in centre fascia trim
    f) find and release a couple of clips holding in centre fascia trim
    g) pull centre fascia trim out

Not sure if thats all of it.
This is on the basis that the whole centre fascia comes out in one piece?
Do I need to worry about the 3 top gauges? Do they need to be disconnected before trying to remove the fascia?

    Cheers.

sounds about right, glove box wont need to come out though.

the gauge pod/gauges will come out as one piece attached to the fascia (shown below). once you have pulled it forward enough you can unplug the loom from the gauge module box.
