Well my weekend was pretty bad...had all the intentions of being a great weekend, but quickly turned sour :(

Started off on Saturday night. Went to work and park in the usual "secure" car park. Came back to my car after work and someone has taken 3 of my badges...I'm guessing at least $50 each IF I can get hold of them that is!

Then on Sunday, I had a race day out with a local company that deals with driver training and what not...Got half way thru the day and the instructor decides to pull the hand brake going around a corner. As soon as he pulls on it, a spring snaps off and jams between the hand brake assembly and the rotor. It got stuck in there with so much force, that it ripped both shoes off the handbrake, which in turn snapped two studs out of my hub and took a nice chunk out of the back of my rotor.

Of course the public holiday Monday was spent sweating and cursing trying to get two studs out of my hub so I could get new bolts in there...I'm now up for a new hand brake assembly, rotor and hub :x

I feel for you mann, that must really suckkkk...
What kind of rotors are you running? Standard or custom?

I must say I worked for Holden down at Fisherman’s Bend in Melbourne
That car park was same,,, scum constantly debadging cars there.
My parents Holden VR wagon was parked on the street one night, all hubcaps, front and rear badges gone. I cannot understand such people.
I hate hubcaps I certainly wouldn’t bother to steal them.
As you know those badges aren’t cheap especially HSV ones>>>

Still the standard rotors, but the HSV are a different size to the normal VP ones....Guess that gives me an excuse to put slotted ones on the rear now :)

Its actually surprised me somewhat, as I was expecting the badges to go a bit sooner...

Let us know how you go with the rotors. Im interested to know how much it will cost if you decide to buy a pair of slotted rotors and what brand.
Are you going to leave it debadged?

If I can't get hold of new badges, then I won't have much choice, but to debadge pretty much the whole car. But I would really like to put some new ones on there as it just won't be the same without them :(

At this stage, I'm looking just over $300 per rotor for DBA longlife slotted ones for the rear... Thats more than double the price for normal VP Commodore ones, as the HSV ones are 280x20mm Vs 279x10.5mm for normal Commodore rotors :x Might have to see if my mechanic can get me a better trade price!

well got a slight update on things...
Ordered the badges today at $45 each
Handbrake setup was $150odd from Holden, so I think I'll source one from the wreckers instead

Who did the 355 Stroker job for you?
Have you had the car on a Dyno yet? :?:

Did you get the instructor to pay for any of it??

white_lie
01-30-2004, 07:58 AM
No, you sign a disclaimer at the start basically saying they're not liable for any damage to yourself or the car... They way I see it, it was going to go sooner or later, it just happened to go then and take out a few other bits in the process *shrug*

The stroker was done by "Zyfurt and Muller" who are apparently porsche/european specialists, but the mechanic that did it is a Holden freak. It was done quite some years ago and has dyno'd at about 180rwkW. I think its a bit more than that now though as the knock sensor has been disabled and the timing wound up a bit. Also low 13 second passes would mean more power than that in a car this heavy! It will be going back on the dyno soonish to see how much power it is actually making. The cam is very mild however and makes peak power pretty low (around 4400RPM). That combined with the stock manifold is really all thats holding it back....Eventually i'll be changing both and should see some 12 second passes out of the old girl

Anything else done to the car wheel change, colour change or Interior extras added???

The car has had a respray, but in it's factory colour. It is one of two sprayed in Canterbury Blue from the factory.

Other mods include:
Suspension work (King's Low springs, Koni External Adjustables all round, K-Mac camber/castor kit)
Diff has been rebuilt (3.45:1 tightly shimmed LSD)
Auto has been shift kitted, 2200RPM hi-stall
Thats about all I can think of atm :)

Would you like to post some images of your ride?
If you would like then email me your images and I will post them for you. I will delete the number plates.

Do you belong to any car clubs?
Have you tried to do any circuit racing?
Have you been involved in any drag racing events lately?

I haven't had the car all that long, so haven't really had a chance to take her out and let loose on the track. It keeps up with low 13 second cars, so low to mid 13's will be the expected 1/4 mile time. I will be taking it down as soon as I get my act together to see what she can do before and after I do my cam/manifold change. Apparently it does a 1 minute 56 second lap around ECR. Its been featured in Street Commodores twice I believe.

Will be joining the Commodore Car Club of WA later this year and possibly look into the HSV owners club.

Heres a few pics...of course its always better in the metal

Nice ride have you fixed everything now?

Still waiting on parts...

I got everything bar the main bracket on the handbrake setup and the rotor from the wreckers. Holden want $80 for the bracket alone, and its coming from Melbourne... DBA want $330 for each rotor

Hi they’re GTS 300
I’ve reduced your Avatar because the original was way to large, don’t get me wrong I love the image I would of left the image that size but if all Avatars became that large then I will have a problem with page uploading times, so sorry for the down sizing. If you have the original image then email it to me and I will down size it so that it doesn’t lose its quality... :D

Its a Harrop 355 crank, with forged pistons of some description, pretty vague with details unfortunately...

Gearbox has been rebuilt many times  Has a decent shift kit and stronger internals atm.

Diff is 3.45:1 LSD

No Probs , The VX GTS goes hard , I have driven alot of cars and serious it is awesome. I have given an few cars on the street a bit of a drag and I have demolished everything including a low 12sec 200sx. Unfortunately I lost against a GTR skyline by a train length but I found out it does low 11z so no comparison.

Ps: I'm up for a set of new P zeros and the car has only 4,000 , Take the traction control off and second gear will spin for a good 80 meters.

White_lie , If you have yourself some Forgies in her I suggest you give her a shot of Nitrous (100hp) and you will run in the 11 second bracket. h

I'm not really a fan of No2. I prefer power I can use all day, everyday. Will be changing the cam and manifold, then looking at forced induction

I suppose if you have the money why not , But if you have a strong engine that goes well on the street and you want some more balls for the track N20 is the way to go.

about two weekends ago.... i was down the road tearing up the local car park with a nice croud and a lancer joined in and i saw a car with a spotlight on the roof approaching so i backed off and pulled up behind a parked car. the paddy wagon got the lancer and missed me so i took the F#%k offf out of there and my mate recons he heard 3 highway patrol cars respond on the scanner who were gonna come after us....... it was the qwickest 10km ever driven in back streets i reccon not to mention on bald tyres!!!
