View Full Version : Is this really what we want?
Please don't get me wrong I love the series and go to Bathurst most years. I would love to see real cars with real engines out there instead of purpose built race engines from the USA. Both Ford and Holden are virtually running the same equipment and drive-train.
The only thing Ford or Holden is the bare body and theirs even talk that some of the panels will be replaced with fibre glass in the future to reduced cost.
Don't mind the Ford V Holden thing or even open brand series like the Group A, but I would love to just have real cars racing. Would'nt it be awesome to have a 6.2L HSV racing against a multi-valve FPV 5.4L in full race trim with only a few restrictions like RPM's and engine compression. I know we have production type racing already in existence and I'm not refering to that.
Love to see what our Forum members think?

Yeah that would be a great idea to resort back to the old days, but face it, it will never happen which sux.

I agree Slug - our V8 series has almost gone the way of NASCAR in the US - the cars are SO similar, that apart from badging on panels, they are literally the same, over there.
Our cars only retain the shells now, as all other 'race car' components replace the standard gear.
To be perfeclty honest, I would rather watch the production cars, Porsche Cup and similar racing now, as the Supercars do not engender the same feelings that the Grp C/Grp A racing did when I was a young fella.

The VE rear door is shortened so that the VE has the same wheelbase as the FG :(
Bring back GroupA
HSV and FPV to sell 500 of what they want to put on the track.
I'll buy 1
This shortened body stuff, I never new that fact.

No matter how much we might want to bring back the old days where we were able to buy a car from a manufacturer and with a few mods go racing... :!: it will never happen.
Agreed, I love the production car series as this is closer to our toys on the road.

Im the opposite. I love V8 Supercars the way they are. They are faster and more exiting to watch. The problem is parity. Having a 6.2ltr vs 5.4ltr seems unfair, even if engine output is similar. Theres also different weights, aero etc. Its far more exiting seeing the 30 car feild within 1.5 seconds.
What I would like to see is cost reduced. It is something they are looking at for 2012. Expect more manufactures. I think they said their goal was $150,000 or $250,000 race cars. This will then allow more cars/teams/drivers to race. We could then see a 55 car grid at Bathurst again!
If you want to see production cars, watch PCAA. Simple really.

Ummmmmm...... I think you will find that they are NOT running the 6.2L & 5.4L engine from the factory but 5.0L engines out of the US murhp_fan51.
The cars we see in the v8Supercar series only resemble our cars only by name and have more similarities to NASCAR than the roots of touring car racing here in Australia/NZ... I think that's what we are saying here.

I Think what he is saying is IF they where to use the 6.2 vs the 5.4 it would be unfair.
I think it would be great, at least it would actually be ford vs holden, would bring back alot of street cred to the owners of which ever make claims the series or bathurst. i dont think it would be unfair at all and if its the case that ford cant keep up, step up. simple as that.

Further to that, look at some of the great cars produced as a result of the Bathurst 1000. Monaro 327/350, XU1, A9X, all the Brocky's, Walkinshaw and VN Group A. Might have missed some but what awesome cars.

Hi there Murph fan51, good to see a lot of emotions out there on this topic. What I want is the best drivers, racing tin-tops and be involved in the Bathurst 1000. I would be more that happy to have the current V8 supercars, but can we at least use Holden and Ford engine blocks that our road cars have. Then work out the parity issue.

Easier said then done I think. Each engine will have different characteristics. One engine may have higher torque at different RPMS to the other for example. One is Overhead cam, other is Pushrod. Are they both Alloy? Then theres the weight difference.
At the moment they are very equal which makes it fair for both manufactures and makes the racing more interesting. But they are introducing a new formula for 2012. Thanks to the help of legend Mark Skaife. Maybe then we will see different engine capacities being used, as well as a multiple of manufactures and hopefully an increased feild of cars and new drivers.

Yeah Skaife is a legend and great for the sport. Hope to see him maybe driving at Bathurst.

Yeah get him outa commentary and back in the seat, him and Croppo make me laugh with some of the stuff they get up to, but will be good to see him back, i recon by now he would have a big itch to scratch being out for so long.

Not quite HRDHSV.
Skaife will still commentate right from his pit box while he is not driving the car. So expect quite a few crossovers from Neil and Matty White to the SGR pit garage where Skaifey will be with his mic! Interesting!
