Hello all I have recently moved to Perth from overseas and aswell as loving the weather I love the HSV Clubsport and want to buy one. I know very little about their specifications etc and wondered if anybody would be so kind as to assist me with some of my queries.

I test drove an 2002 R8 VX11 (255kw) over the weekend. It was excellent and totally sold me but car had no FSH and with 83km on clock this stlightly concerned me. Is there any way to verify the actual k's done on a Clubby?

Feeling a little gready after driving the 255kw, Ideally I am looking for an R8 (285kw) in manual with the short shift gears. Would like a car standard as possible (mechanically anyway apart from the short shift). The one I test drove had leather seats, sunroof so Id like these if possible. Also I believe you can get them with sat-nav and climate (other creature comforts).

I understand my questions are quiet broadbrush but I can't seem to find definitive differences between VX, Y, Z models in the clubsport. Im would like it in the R8 model with the above mentioned options.

Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

Paul :)

The VX & VY clubsports both had the 5.7 litre LS1 engine. I wouldnt get too hung up on the 255kw of the VX II v the 285 of the VYII. The 285 is easily attainable in the VX with some tuning and exhaust mods. Personally I prefer the looks of the VX over the VY and remember my VX II R8 fondly.

The VZ clubsport had the 6.0 litre LS2 engine of 297kw which was a definite step up from the LS1 powered clubsports.

Try each of the models out and go for the one you personally enjoy and your budget can stretch to. As for Satnav you are probably better off with an aftermarket TomTom or Garmin

I assume you mean 83,000km's?
My 2000 VT has 81,000, why are you worried about a car with low k's? It should still drive and look near new with those k's.

thanks, I do mean 83,000 km.

Biggest concern is that the 2002 VXII R8 that I test drove did not have a service history and on speaking to the HSV deler today he said there was no way to verify the actual km's on the car. I am afraid the car may have been tampered with.

Oh well, keep looking, there are plenty arounf for sale, some very likely to have less km's.

I would personally get the VX but that is personal preference (toughest looking HSV cars). If you want slighly newer including the interior, plus more kW's standard, get the VY2.

As someone mentioned, a simple and cost effective upgrade to the engine can easily match the VY2 specs. You can spend more and surpass the new VE HSV cars!!

yeah i agree, the VX is a tough looking model, and I also prefer it over later models. I reckon go for a 2001/2 Vx R8 clubby, with leather coulsens and a sunroof, plus the 6-speed manual (they're more fun). A VY spec power figure is maybe an exhaust and tune away. 83000 kms isnt that bad a number either :D

I wouldn't be too concerned about the k's - it will most likely be correct at 83,000. There are means of checking - any field recall stickers inside the driver door jamb? Get in touch with the previous owner - the dealer should supply last owner details.

If it drives well and checks out well mechanically and aesthetically, then I cannot see there being any issues. A car with those k's and which looks to be in good condition, will have been looked after properly, I would suggest.

And yes, the VX is the better model!!! :D

Cheers,

Macca

+1 vote for the VX here as well.

And... Don't worry about the k's. Think of it this way, a crate motor L98(6.0L) is only 3.3K.... hell, even a LS3(6.2L) is now only 6k.
