I am currently looking for a car. Preferbly a HSV. My problem is that the new Victorian laws forbid P-Plate drivers to drive a V8, Superchargeed or Turbocharged vechicle, make any modifications, and cannot be over 125kw's per tonne. I done really care if the car is charged, or over 125kw's per tone, and i can always make mods after i get it registered. Well, i done really care about any of the rules any more (I did in the beginning, but not now). I have been looking for a car for months. I have looked at some XU6's and how i can modify it, but i am still not 100% sure on what i should do:confused:. So i am asking for your opinion. What should i do? Please help.

I,ve also got a new plan. Tell me what ya think about this? I buy a XU6, get it registered, THEN modify it (mainly with bolt on stuff, so i can take it off if I have to). I know someone that has a S15 with about 20G'S worth of mods (some stuff isn't legal. shhhhhh), and if there's any sign of cops, he'll be gone before you notice he's gone. Still hasnt been caught.

I got the plan of what i can do from www.v6supercharger.com

So what do ya think guys? Dont forget your opinion on the first part.

Start saving and wait until you get your full licence.

Or do what i did at your age and just spend all your cash on alcohol and women. Hang on - I'm still doing that. :)

my advice is the same as E Series GTS ... save ur pennies and wait till your on a full and then do it right!

be careful not caring about the Law as it can come back and bite you on the financial ass really hard.

you can still have a nice ride without busting the law till you get your full license.

my 2c.

:)

good luck which ever way you choose.

Don't break the law... that's just asking for trouble and you never win in the end.

You could do what one of my friends son has done, he is in the same boat as you where he cannot get V8,V6s/c or a turbo... so went luxury and got a Black Calais V6, all the options even Sat Nav/DVD,removed all the badges, tinted the shit out of the windows, dumped it on is ass with a set of 20's + up'ed the sound system +Sub +amps.

Looks like a bloody mafia bosses car and he now does weddings with it, so he is making money from the car.

Good luck in your search. :|

Thanks, but what i should have added is that i only want to buy one car until i get a house. So i wouldnt want to save for another car as i would want to buy a house. Any other opinions?

DO WHAT I DID. Use public transport and ''WALK'' everywhere if you can... save up hard for couple years.... buy your first shitter of a house (3 bedrooms bathroom garage) do it up if youre that way inclined... sell when the markets booming, save your xtra $$$dosh$$$... do it again but pick wisely the house you want to invest in.... make more $$$dosh$$$... By then youll have enough to buy your new home outright... then buy your first HSV. GOODLUCK

Your really need to look at statistics etc of young drivers in powerful cars, you have time, do it right. Just think if some idiot in a hotted up car racing on the streets, rams your car or kills one your friends, you would think twice.

Plenty of HSV's you could buy that are P plate freindly. My SV1800 I have had now for almost 15 years, is a prime example. And its for sale.

ok, no-one's done it so i'm going to! just a bit of constructive criticism m8, so don't get all riled up and spit chips -

the gov of the day has in their infinite wisdom decided to protect the young drivers from themselves by restricting the type of vehicle you are allowed to drive. make sense seeing as though a majority of young drivers (and some experienced ones too) can't drive their vehicles with proper caution and certainly with next to no road etiquette.

as others have said, save you bickies, buy a small bomb to get you from A - B and when you've done your time and off the 'p' - with a bit more driving experience then look at your choices...

to say that you don't care about the law, that attitude is S**T my friend, 'cos i dare say you'll care when it turns foul and bite you hard in the ass...i have seen too many 'p' drivers over here in V8's as their 1st car and treat it, the roads, law, other innocent drivers like s**t, and this is no implication that you'd do this too, just be smart about it.

there's been a few high profile media exposure recently over here, due to a couple of young deaths on the roads in high powered cars, our gov has fallen into line with eastern states and is including veh's restrictions on 'p' drivers.

i'd dare say it, but with an attitude like yours unless it is changed fairly quick, you'll end up a statistic. i hope it never happens m8, 'cos i'd hate to see - and so would the majority of this forum - a fellow member come to grief.

now you can return a flame, i don't really care, what i do care about is your attitude towards the law and other road users as well as your life. what ever you choose to do, have a happy long driving life and put up some pics when u get a car, (HSV) one that is, we don't want to see any other car.

The bit that makes me laugh about the pplate restrictions on cars is that he can buy cars that are more powerful or faster than some v8s and legally drive them

example: ve sv6 commodore 195kw more than a vs clubsport :???:

OK man, calm down. I do care about the law, it's just some time they just stuff up all my plans, and i get pissed. You know? I just wanna tell em to GET F*%#ED! I understand why that have put these restrictions into place, but this is the kind of person that I am.

I know, I get pissed cause my plans get stuffed too. Maybe MR COP in WA would be able to help me with my situation!!! If he thinks he is so smart. We all know we have to obey the rules and regulations your state government makes for their state roads. Now here is my problem. I moved to NSW march 2007 on my NZ driver licence. I got a RTA customer number with no problem at all (driver licence n passport required) Went to buy my HSV VE GTS. 15 months later I get pulled over by Mr PC BACON. Tells me I can't drive here anymore....bans me from driving! I then go to the RTA to get my licence transfered... RTA tells me I can't do that cause my name doesn't match my passport...I told them they never told me that when I was there to get a customer number to buy my vehicle...Anyway, I fly back to NZ to change my name on licence (all done). I came back and went to go and see them, now they tell me I can't drive my car cause it's a v8! They say I can be exempt only if I drive it to work.... I dont f@@ckin work cause Im retired!!! Yes I'm only 29...but who cares. Now my car sits in garage. Talk about stuff my life up!!!! I now have to catch a cab to my boat! haha what a joke. So I know how you feel mate, but rules are rules. Yes I care about the law, But why should I suffer? I was issued my learner driver licence in 1997, I had it for 12 months, I sat and passed my Restricted licence (P PLATE) had that for 10 years (why ten years, I was an SAS TROOPER with the NZ ARMY serving my arse off for both countries) I met my partner here in Sydney... I sit my full driver licence in Feb 2007, move over... and now I can't drive. You think thats fair? You think the law targets the real problem with some P PLATE drivers, remember not all P plate drivers are problem drivers. We all know that and Im sure you do to. Really, Drivers today are alot more safer drivers then drivers 20, 30 years ago. You must of driven around the block to get your full licence didnt you. And now you feel you have the right to enforce such rules on others.... Bullshit I say, shame on you! my 2 cents worth

hey dude i've been calm all along, obviously you've misinterpreted my opinion to mean something else.

i agree with you that the law at times is stuffed, but there isn't much anyone can do about it, but live with it. it's not just in 'p' plater respects, it's all over the economy and i have been just as ripped off as the next person.

if you have a legal loophole open to you, then exploit it.

my point was that i was getting at,was that i didn't want to see a fellow HSV forum member do something they'd might regret or cost them dearly, because of your stated uncaring attitude with the law. but you've explained yourself a bit more as to why you're pissed.

hopefully you'll be able to have your cake and eat it too.

I congratulate you for your hard earned service mate, you and others deserve more than you get recognised for...i know quite a few ppl in the regiment past and present, so i for one don't let it go un-noticed what SAS are all about.

your problem is a total disbelief and it seems that it was the RTA stuff up and not the COPS. GOV/RTA make the rules COPS enforce them, remember that. your beef should be with the RTA, not the boys in blue, unless you've another significant rant about them that has got you so peeved.

i wasn't trying to enforce any law on anyone, and no i didn't go around the block to get my licence, it was two actually, so before you make a comment get the fact right. i wasn;t having a personal dig at anyone.

Are you a cop? Cause whenever you talk, you sound like a cop. Always on their side. Dont you guys recon that this guy's a cop? Sure sounds like one.

What if he is? You originally come on here asking for advice on what to do, the majority of people have given you advice but because it isn't what you want to hear you don't want to consider it. That is all well and good, it's up to you if you want to take the advice or not but what is the point in attacking the advice that you are given? The majority of the advice given to you on this subject is to save you from the financial cost of making payments on a car that you can't drive or insure, it's not that the people on this forum don't want you to have a HSV.

I reckon that you should just go out and buy whatever V8 that you want, just don't register it and drive it like you want to, not how the law dictates you should. You should be able to drive at double the speed limit in most zones - go on, give it a go. And don't worry about the cops - I'm sure you'll be able to outrun them and because the car isn't registered they won't have any number plate to look up to find you.

Problem solved.

And don't worry about the cops - I'm sure you'll be able to outrun them and because the car isn't registered they won't have any number plate to look up to find you.

Problem solved.

Alrite.

1stly, i said THANKS, for your opinion, just incase you missed it. It was at the start... pretty hard to miss.

2ndly Senator III suggested a Jackaroo... now, what would you have said if you were in my position?

3rdly go hrt said to use public transport... i think you only read the first part of what I wrote. Cause my last two sentences were "But thanks for the tips. I'll keep the second part in mind." I said THANKS

4thly Johno didnt give me advice, he gave me a lecture. I get plenty of them else where. Looks like he was giving "go hrt" a lecture as well.

Finally, THANK YOU for your advice.
