Like to get some feedback as to the performance of the new VE HSV cars for this year.
Lately each time I see the race on TV it's all FPR
Im trying to examine why this is so?
As we all know HSV is running a huge 6L V8 compared to FPR's 5.4L.
Christ!! a bigger capacity engine is an advantage in it's own right.

- Is it because the Ford 5.4L engine is high tech in relation to the HSV 6L engine?
Having said that lets not for get the 5.4L Ford engine and as far as I know is running a heavy cast Iron Block

- Is it because the VE is a heavier car than the Ford?
- I can remember the older VZ HSV's flogging the crap out of the Fords, so where is the difference there?
- Is the 6L engine fully developed and thats why HSV slipped in a 6.2L V8?
I really need to know why our VE,s are struggling as of late.
Looking forward to the replies and yes Iam a HSV fan being the proud owner of a VZ HSV R8 with only 28000 Klm on the clock and love it. ;)

Your mention of FPR and watching them on TV leads me to believe that you are referring to the V8 Supercar series.
If that is the case then you may have missed something that happened way back in 1992 when the category was created to replce the International Group A series.
The decision was made to run a local 5L series to cater for Holden and Ford as they both had 5L V8's at the time. Still to this day they run the 5L V8 category even though the road cars no longer use these engines.

Ford BA Racecar Specs (http://www.v8supercar.com.au/content/attachments/techtalk/2008/ford_ba/files/8979/Fujitsu%20Ford%20BA.pdf)

More info on the series can be found at http://www.v8supercar.com.au/

Personally i would rather go back to the Group A series where the race cars actually had a direct link to their homologated Road registered relatives.
The production car championships held through the last decade are more interesting than the Supercars as they represent the real road cars.

Yep... the V8Supercar series does not use the same engines as the road cars so comparing them is worthless.

Oh dear! Thanks Guys. no I did not realise they still run the 5L engines. So are we still talking about the Holden 308Cui and Ford 302 Cui??
I would agree with you Corsa I also would like to go back to the Gruop A Racing as it makes sense to race the latest technology.
I dont think I will watch V8 supercars again.

Basically without going into too much detail, both camps are currently using american race engines.
Larry Perkins was the last one to use a Holden V8 (304ci as introduced mid VK to qualify for the under 5L division of Group A) and they have used two different Chev V8's since.
I didn't watch the V8 Supercars today because i was too busy out enjoying my Group A.

The only resemblance our road cars have with the V8 supercars is the brand name and body shapes. The V8 engines a purpose built American race engines and both brands are restricted to a 5L capacity. Under the rules they all run the same compression ratio's and max RPM. Usually when one brand starts to dominate, the other brand will be allowed adjustments to the body work etc to keep the cars level. Entertainment only!!!!!
