My predicament is - do all freeway driving between Gosford & Sydney Daily.

1. Which is more powerful v6 Supercharged or v8?

2. It is my impression a V8 is more economical on FWY driving as the turbo is constantly running in the XU6 whilst cruising on the FWY

3. Which do you recommend

I can't say I've heard alot of good things about the supercharged 6.
I would pick the V8 anyday ESPECIALLY if highway cruising.
and the V8 definately has more power.

1.
The XU6 has 180kW
A V8 will have way more than that depending on what model your looking at

2.
Superchargers (don't confuse it with a turbo) is always running, however create more boost at higher revs. Cruising on the freeway at low revs will not be working the supercharger hard so it wont be providing you with lots of additional boost.

A v8 will use more fuel due to the fact it has larger cylinders and more cylinders to feed. A v6 will have better economy when cruising.

3.
Depends on how much you want to spend on petrol. The supercharged v6 motor have had issues - partially why Holden stopped including the supercharged option and why HSV didnt take it too far.

For freeway cruising you would get good fuel economy from a v8 so it would absolutely put a dent in the wallet.

Get back to us as to what your v8 option would be - eg, HSV, SS - and what model.

If ONLY doing highway driving you should get down near 10L/100km's.

mine gets 9.5l/100k on the highway, with a change of exhaust from factory one installed and a tune, should see it go down to just under 8 - 8.5L/100k.

Obviously fuel economy in a V6 will be better than a V8.

I'd go for a V8 purely due to the fact that the superchargers had issues and a VX doesn't have new car warranty still.

hi i was in the same predicement when i was looking for a car. the xu6 will save on fuel but it has problems or so iv heard. the clubby has alot more power and with a good tune eat up most cars on the road. i went for the clubby just cos i love that LS1 sound and will most likely keep it say 5 years from now. im a sucker for that vx shape.

i just took test drive in both and you know the difference and just felt right

I had 4 years behind a supercharged v6 car and had no issues at all and infact heard nothing but glowing reports of reliability from this particular motor during routine under warranty services. One mechanic I remember saying "they never come back." The supercharger doesnt kick in until 3300rpm under that its like a V6 commodore with economy to match. As for the 180kw dont be fooled it has a pile of low down torque about 400NM right where you want it for the street. I no longer have a S/C v6 car but I have nothing but praise for them and they do respond very well to a bunch of mods available if chasing extra power is your thing. Whether you go clubsport or XU6 you wont be disappointed.

My VZ Senator gets a constant 10L/100kms, according to trip computer, and my calculations. Wouldnt waste time with any supercharged or turbo engine again. The
V8 is so much easier to live with, the power is effortless.
