hey all im a new member to this site, i know my cars not an hsv but this was the only decent looking holden forum i could find on google
my names reuben im from new zealand
i recently purchased this fine 1981 VB Commodore
2 previous owners ,including and old lady who had it from the factory for most of its life
202 blue top motor automatic
red and silver two tone
all original
im a bit of a japper fan but my old man owns a commy vn i think? and when i saw this i knew it was me

this last pic is a photochop of how i want it to look one day, i want to keep this thing as original as possible for value and rarity, which is why it retained the two tone but im reallly keen on the gloss black, opinions welcome!

i got this car in december 2006 and pretty much the first week i got it things started going wrong
im assuming that the car had been driven rather gently all its life, now i didnt think of that at the time and i started thrashing it
not quite thrashing but driving it fast
so it obviously didnt like that and it started to crap out on me
first to go was the cam gear which is a fibreplastic based one so it stripped rather easily
i replaced that with an aftermarket alloy one
it went sweet for a while, then the head gasket went fixed that up had it for one week and it ****ed out again
after the last time id had enough so i went on TM and found an rb30 from a vl its got everything i need including a manual gearbox
im just wondering if anyone here has owned a vb and if they ever tried putting an rb30 in it if so whats involved? i dont think it will be too dificult but i thought id ask on here and see what you guys think
any help is appreciated
