Hi peeps,
My name is George, I used to live in Sydney and for the last 6 years have been living in Greece.
I used to own a Ford Falcon XAGT Coupe for many years then converted to HSV for 2 reasons. 1, cos Ford had nothing decent after 1982 and 2, I realised that chevs were cheaper to build and maintain. After the GT, I bought a Walky. It was number 070. I had to sell it, (very sadning), when I moved to Greece and now own a 2000 model rex STI. I am a V8 man all the way but couldnt own one in Greece cos V8s hardly exist here and if you come across one, (very rarely, may see one every two years), it will be a Merc or a BMW, hence the reason I got the rex. It was the next best thing to an eight.
I know that HSV are exporting to the UK as XRV's and to some countries in the middle East. I saw some Monaros in Dubai two years ago in LHD with chev badges, called lumina.
Ive been trying to find out if other countries in Europe are getting them cos if they are I want one of the new VE R8 clubbies. If Europe is getting them it will be easy to register one over here without going through all the first time hassles one goes through when an unknown model arrives here. You may ask why I wont purchase one of the VXR8s, (UK name for the VE clubby), from the UK and that's because they are in RHD and I need one in LHD. Sure, you can register RHD vehicles here but because most roads are only one laned roads I'd have to pull the whole car out of my lane when behind a truck to see if anything is approaching in the opposite direction when I want to overtake. Too dangerous. It was the reason I didnt bring the walky with me to Greece.
Does anybody know if HSV is sending LHD cars to countries in Europe other than the UK? Or are they planning anything in the near furure?
Cheers,
George.
