Today I went down the local car yard to look at what I thought was a VR/S clubby replica, turns out its a genuine VR Clubby, its priced on the cheap side $6999 what makes me abit suspicious yet still it could be all legit being a higher milage car.....
Ill give you a quick run down of the car, its done 260,000km, 4spd auto, interior is in good condition, paint work not faded or chipped, the body kit and rims are in excellent condition (no scratches on rims, or repairs or replacement of Body kit) all 5 rims are genuine HSV items, air conditioning works and is icy cold!
The only faults I could find was that the roof is sagging (will need replacement), the fog lamp button has pushed back into [behind/inside] the dash.

Took the car for a test drive and it seamed to hold a long time in first and really kicked when changing from 1st-2nd is this normal????
and when turning there was a whining noise sounded like it was comming from the steering rack? what could this be? Just low fluids or is this a normal HSV thing??? yet it wasnt heavy on the steering.
yet before I sign anything im going to get the car RAA checked, coz I might be able to beat the price down if ther are any major "fault" or get them to fix it first.

What I would also like to know is what do I have to look out for on the VR Clubbys? or are they a fairly "safe" car to buy?
IE: like on the VL's gotta check as they get head crack problems.
Im going to be contacting HSV tomorrow to get a check on the VIN and the Plates to make sure its a genuine clubby, just dont want to be spending my money then find out its just a stock commodore made up as a replica.

Anyone?????
Hi, general things to look for on these are the rear k-frame / crossmemeber which are known to crack or have hairline cracks in them. Rear main seal leak.

The whining or moaning type sounds is fairly common in the vr/vs commodores and there are cheap lubricant fixes, having said that without hearing or looking at it it may be your steering pump but check that the fluid is up to the required level. There generally a safe car to buy and if its been well maintained the engine should be fine.

holding a long time in first and hitting second hard is sometimes due to the gearbox being cold, it should do it less when it warms up, it could also have a shift kit of some kind if its hitting second hard. If your worried about it being a fake then yeah definatly get hsv to check it. Buy the sounds of it the car yard has had it for a long time or they dont know what they have. The wining can be the punp as GTS215 mention or it can be your wheel bearings which are very cheap to fix.

at that price you have very little to loose.my auto vp gts holds in 1st for ages before it kicks into 2nd and thats how its been since 1992. so if its alright for hsv its alright for me.

The Caryard know its a HSV and all, but because they have had it for a while they are just trying to get rid of it, but alot of people are turned off because of the price of fuel etc
Is ther anyway externally to tell if its had a shift kit put on it??? Just awaiting the bank to get bak to me, but im really keen to buy this one as it seems like a winner and if it turns bad down the track i could always sell it for wat i paid....

no way externally to tell unless maybe a b&m sticker somewhere. other than that just the way it kicks back.

my vn manual clubbie was bought from a caryard at a bargain price of $4k and hav 160kmson the clock. it was real ruff when running, but after fresh lubricants and about 5 quick oil changes and the usual tune up parts it runs fantastic. soyou just dont know.......

as it was mentioned have a look for rear end main seal leaking, this is a costly one. or sludge under the oil cap (usually for water in the oil)
