Hi.

Just done a search and nothing much came up on GPS.

I have just taken ownership of a 2004 HSV series 3 GTO and was wondering if anyone could help me.

What I am after is some advice on getting a in dash Sat Nav system for the GTO.

I spoke to hsv and nearly fell over when they gave me the price of the factory stuff.

Any ideas please would be greatly appreciated or some first hand knowledge
please

Welcome to the GTO club mate!
Ive got a factory GPS in mine, hardly ever use it, why do you want it? Unless you are often going somewhere you dont know, youll probably only use it once a week at most? How much is it to install from Holden just out of interest?

there are plenty of options when it comes to SAT NAV.

I'd suggest going to somewhere like WOW sight and sound or Autobarn (or anythin similar that also do instal work. remembering that these are all individually franchised, each store will be different in there advice and quality of work.

I have SATNAV in mine as i do a lot of national travel. it really comes down to personal taste and your budget.

keep in mind, that the price tag of the holden one is not the only put-off. it's also the functions and features of it are nowhere near as high as some of the individually bought commercial stuff.

few things to consider:

how much do you want to spend?
do you want to be able to take it out of the car easily aswell?
where would you like it mounted and how?
do you want it moulded into your current fittings or stand-alone?

get some answers for these and take them to the above suggestions.

there are some GPS systems small enough and in the right shape that will fit into the same place as the factory stuff underneath the stereo. i'd suggest something like that and get a custom panel made to make it look permanent. still accessable when you want it, but looks nice as well.

Thanks for your help.

I have been searching the net all night and come up with these options

A Kenwood DDX 8047
http://www.ryda.com.au/Kenwood-DDX-8047-In-Dash-Car-DVD-Tuner-p/ddx8047.htm

or the DDX 6039
http://www.ryda.com.au/Kenwood-DDX-6039-In-Dash-Car-DVD-Monitor-p/ddx6039.htm

and a KNA-520 GPS
http://www.kenwood.be/kenwood/kenprod.nsf/_/E508D8748274B74F0125715D003DC6F9

And steering wheel Adapter that is hard wired and not a IR adapter
http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsCatagory.asp?mmSearch=Steering%20Wheel%20I nterface

And a plug that fits into the harness So it dosen't have to be butchered and the factory unit can easily be re installed at a later date.
and the aerial adapter too

http://www.installer-data.com/item/display_item.php?it=99-3528

Many of the adapters I can't find in Aussie
and the steering wheel control

When I buy the head unit and GPS and the shop installs it I would like them to use the adapters and the Pac steering wheel control. But the ones I have spoken to use the IR adapter and cut the factory harness off to the install new unit

If I must buy these seperate and give to the installer to use so I get the job I want, I will buy the adapters for the installer

What are your thoughts on the Kenwood units and any other advice you could give me please on the adapters and where to buy in Aussie

Thanks again for any input you guys can give me please

hey good quality choice of unit if you decide on any of these units!

no need to spend the extra on the ddx8047 over the ddx6039.

the 6039 has all you need for SATNAV as well as for a killa sound system set up.

i say this as i personally run the 6039 in mine (which can be seen in my pic)

keep in mind however that although the space in your car allows for a double DIN unit, it does not fit straight in. you will need to get a plate customised. the quickest and easiest is to get the single DIN/plus pocket and cut off the pocket leaving just the surround. this saves massive amounts of time and guess work. this is what i did for mine and it looks sweet.

the 6039 has a huge amount of audio controls to make your sound system sound great. ive had mine for almost 12 months and swear by it!!!!

as for the kenwood SATNAV box to go with it, i can not comment as i use a navman for the purpose of mobility out of the car also. However, looking at the link you supplied i seen Garmin have their name enscribed on the unit. I do know they are one of the leaders in SATNAV and have been for years so I'd say by that, that it "should" be good

just in case: i am not sure if you currently have any amps/subs set up but if not, but plan to in the future, save yourself some time, money, and hassle by getting the RCA's run through when getting the deck installed. save all the buggering around pulling it all out again later. you can pretty much just plug'n'play later.

hope this helps

Thanks very much fot your reply vypower.
It was a great help

I am undecided on the which Kenwood DD to get. The DDX8047 seems to have more features more outputs and 5V out puts but it lacks the iPod compatability that the DDX6039.

I can't find any info on the DDX6039 Voltage for the outputs? are they 5v less?

Do you have any ideas on where to get the PAC SWI-ALP steering wheel control in Aussie please.

I have searched the net and only came up with places in the USA

Thanks once again for your help

I have emailed the Aussie Dist and no reply. all the USA retailers that have the PAC products don't ship to Australia.

Seen the ones on ebay but ebay was going to be my last resort to get one.

What do you use to control your HU?
