03 Astra Auto transmission lock

hi everyone! my auto transmission '03 Astra has a stuck shift lock on the gear stick.... like it won't go in to enable the stick to move out of 'Park' position. Has anyone else had this prob? know of any fixes? Holden Roadside Assist is on the way but you know the waiting period on a long weekend.....

isnt that just the safety lock? i know on the older Vectra you needed to apply force to the brakes to move the lever. otherwise, its most likely gotten some dirt or sand grit in it, which has blocked it.
