Afternoon hsvf,

I drive a vt ss,everytime the car is cold and or understrain there is a pinging or knocking noise coming from the engine the blokes at work say that it may be the lifters and i should try changing the oil first before going to the mech's is this the first thing i should try or just go straight to the mechanics.
If changing the oil will help which oil would be be recommended, currently im using Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 is good enough I could tell you to go for Castrol thats the brand I prefer but its all the same. I would see the mech then you can make your mind up whether or not first change the oil. A good mech shouldn’t charge you for the check or advice so it doesn’t cost you anything. See three mech for there advice because Ive been caught out a few times, three opinions are better then one.. good luck let us know how you go...

is your VT a 5lt or genIII??? if its a genIII its most probabaly a bit of piston slap. not a lot you can really do except for getting a new set of pistons :(

if its a 5lt, it could also be piston slap. my 5lt makes a knocking noise on a cold morning but its nothing to worry about. :)

id take it to ya local mechanic and just get them to have a look at it :)
