How many of you use car wash places like for example Car Lovers? and if you do, do you get swirl marks using them wash brush things. By the way I hate those brush things you have to use to wash the car with, also the hanging hose gets in the way and I find it hard to clean the car properly everywhere.
I miss the sponge and bucket..
Are we in Vic able to use the bucket then hose down the car still?

On your front lawn? But with water restrictions, its a bit of a no no
I cheat at my local CarLovers and take a sponge and bucket along with me. Spray the car with soap, fill the bucket with it and away you go. The operators don't seem to have a problem with me doing it, but then again, I'm there twice a week...

And I thought I was the only one doing that at Carlovers. I had a few strange looks at Carlovers pulling out the bucket and sponge; I also use my own Maguires cleaning liquid.
I like using Carlovers because you have the option of high pressure and at home you dont. I tend to only spend around 4 dollars which is not much, maybe 6 with vacuum cleaning.

I wish the operators of our local wash bays "squirts" were just as forgiving. They decided to give me lecture about how there brushes would not damage the paint on the car! They didn't like me filling the bucket and using a sponge. Said I took too long. I said hey, I'm still paying for the use, but he did not care so I told him to go "F#ck" himself and that he would no longer get my business nor any of my friends business.
I told him that there is no way his brushes are safe after 4wds covered in mud and or sand go through there. I also have a tendancy to beleive the recycled water would be full of salt from boats being washed down and 4wds after running on beaches.
I now wash car in specified times at home on the lawn.
This guy will soon have two other competitors with much better facilities. Hi attitude better change, otherwise he'll find himself running out of customers!

I agree with everything you say that’s why I use a sponge and bucket and also the water I’m sure it’s still got salt and sht in it somehow!!!!
I also once got a strange look from the owner but he never said much because he liked the car, but look I still spend 4 to 6 dollars as much as the other people and there using the brush so I don’t understand that guys point its all about the money isn’t it?? You still come to use the facility...
Not a good idea to piss people off especially with a business like that word of mouth travels very quick around town that guy will learn to shut his mouth one day when business goes down the drain....

Im very good friends with the guy who own a car lovers near me, so ive been using them ofr years.
I certianly wouldnt use the big brush there, especially after a 4WD has just come through after a mud bash.
However i used to use my own bucket, sponge etc and that was fine, by my mate who also doesn't care if anyone else does the same and it only cost me $3 dollars all up and spent however long i want.
They are very handy, and cost nothing if u know the procedure and can use the time and hoses effectivley.
You can also use One cycle with the High pressure soap, then one/two cycles of the high pressure rinse and then chamois it and it will come up perfectly clean and you dont need any brush, sponge.
Ive found any type of sponge/ wool hand glove etc will leave swirls after a considerable time if u dont keep up the polish too.

Oh my god!
The water from car washes is recycled? Is that a fact?
If so, im never taking my baby to a car wash again.
I live in the Northern Territory and there are ALOT of 4WDS and boats up here. Shit, im gonna go home and check the sheen on my baby tonight :p
Up here, we have the luxury of never having water restrictions and lots of places to hand wash your car. Im reverting back to this method now hehe.

Just go to an autobahn and you can buy a prssure washer like mine for less than $100. You can use it even with the water restrictions and you can take your time and do the car properly.

Places like Carlovers even Crystal Carwash facilities all claim their brushes do not damage paint work, but experience tells me that the high volume traffic, linked with their no knowledge staff, really dont have a clue about car paint work, damage or maintenance. Even a soft brisseld brush used with a quality shampoo will put micro scratches and brush marks into your paint or clear coat - FACT. These places dont look after their brushes and wash them out regularly or throw them out when their worn, so ultimately if used they will damage your car.
A good quality clean sponge, fresh water bucket and suds is the best way to wash your pride and joy, alternatively I have sometimes used a fresh microfiber towel as these are soft too.
Most places also recycle about 70% of water, usually not very well either, it's based on their recycling operation, so their is a question over the quality of the grey water being used.
In NSW these places are potentially making a killing due to water restrictions etc, but fail to invest any of their profits into up grading their facilities, their are a number of mickey mouse carwash facilties in the USA which offer fantastic tools to ensure your car is not subject to any un-necessary damage, but thus far Im yet to see any of this equipment at any carwash faciltity in Australia.. One day maybe.

Well i was at the carwash the other day in vic, just one of them servo ones with 3 lanes and also got told to move my car as i was taking too long and also to dry her in the sun! i told him that this could not be done and if there was someone waiting in line that i might of thought about it (getting really pissed of about now) and that he doesnt know the first thing about washing a car! I flipped out n also said that im here every week and i pay for it just like everyone else, and eventually told him to shove his carwash up his clacka, dumb ass, god damn. I also take a bucket and sponge too trusty old meguires but im pretty sure that there is some portion/sort of salt in the soaps they use that over time will litrally eat yor clear coat away.

I just used STAR WASH (Sydney) today. Usually I'm too stingy to pay for someone to clean my car...but today I was especially lazy....
I got a standard "star wash" They vacuumed, washed etc for $30. Sure there's cheaper places but the cafe place had every new magazine and newspaper known to man...actually relaxed.....always nice seeing your car get cleaned. They did a good job as well. I noticed they had the wheels cleaned thoroughly, wiped the inside of the the glass...and used tyre shine. Overall pretty happy.
I'll probably use them again.

I regularly use our local pressure wash joint, i've had no problems at all doing myself and using a bucket for the most of it. These days with all the water restrictions, it's a good option.
The auto wash does have a sign saying "all care, no responsibility"!
And if i recall the last place i used in Sydney had the same, so as for court, i don't think so.
Yes they all use recycled water, thats why they are allowed to operate during water restrictions. Only the "spot free rinse" is clean water.

Put in a small water tank at home 2000 - 3000 litres and you will never have to use a car wash again. My tank setup cost $700 all up inc plumbing fitting, took 2 hours to install and 12 hours to fill it up with the hose, no really only took 2 weeks in Melbourne to fill it with rain water. Now I was when I want and use what I want, I dont trust the car wash brushes. Our local guy supplies a sponge bucket for your wheels but will not let you sponge wash the body.
