Wasnt really most appropriate thread to put this on...

Took my car to get serviced on thursday last week, and specifically said DON'T WASH IT,.. and guess what they washed it..

Do you think I'd be in my rights to now demand they fully detail it and remove all swirls marks... It's a e3 gts and I've been very particulary with my washing technique...

It was one of the Holden dealers,..and they said it was mainly pressure wash,.. But I haven't seen a pressure cleaner get the car free of dirt like it was when it came back, and it does appear to have more swirl marks..

In the same situation myself. They even guttered a rim. Been battling with them for 4 months and have lawyers involved trying to recover costs.
Depending on what work you've had done to your car in the past, having them detail your car may damage it even further-poor techniques, synthetic products etc. I guess it depends on what level of "detail" your car was at before?
Would be interested to know what dealer, if in Sydney? PM me if you like?
Good luck with it, it's been a nightmare for me!!

Good luck. My car was delivered with Paint Chips and Swirl Marks from new. The Paint Chips got fixed but they won't fix the Swirl Marks. The Dealer Said I put the Chips & Swirl Marks in the Car from bad washing Practice. Funny Thing was I hadn't washed the 3 day old car before I took it back to the Dealer for an Inspection.

Anyone use a karcher brush to remove all the dirt prior to cleaning. At one of the places Where I work we get hard alumina dust on the cars, which is a bit sticky. I don't know if a straight blast with the karcher removes it, so was thinking I could give some help with a brush??

Any advice or feedback? Interested in thoughts if that would reduce or increase risks of swirl marks

If it's a hard bristle, it will likely mark the paint. I'd be looking at getting a foam lance to add to the pressure washer to help it along. If there's still some stubborn stuff afterwards, it may need a clay bar to get rid of it but then of course you'll need to protect the paint with a wax or sealant after as it will remove all of that as well.

The bristles felt softish,.. I didn't see a foam lanve,.. I've look around..

I use Mint APC
http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/mint/apc
It does a very good job removing surface dust and dirt. I use about 20 - 30 ml/per wash.
Check out this post.

That product looks like it strips wax? Do u rewax every time?

white_lie
04-10-2012, 12:53 PM
I wouldn't be foaming everytime I washed the car, otherwise yes, you should be waxing it afterwards... ends up quite costly! But if you've got stubborn dirt on there, it will need something fairly aggressive

04-10-2012, 03:01 PM
So I've purchased the lance, but a different foam..

do u think a karcher brush would do less swirl damagen than micro fibre towel?

white_lie
04-10-2012, 09:05 PM
A towel? To wash it?
I use a lambs wool mitt, does a good job using the two bucket method. No swirls.

When you say a brush, I can only think of those horrid things at car washes which are nothing but trouble. I'd only use a brush on wheels or around the arches.

neil73
04-10-2012, 09:12 PM
It's a soft brush that attaches to the end of a karcher, so has a constant flow of water over the bristles..

Senator01

Never use a brush to wash your car ... period. You are asking for swirls and scratches ...

Forgive me for my ignorance but what's wrong with a good bucket and sponge wash. Seems to work just fine? Or is it the colour of the paint? Keep it simple.

white_lie
04-10-2012, 10:13 PM
You'll find that using a single bucket, you're rubbing a lot of dirt back in to the paint work. If you rinse the mitt/sponge/cloth in fresh water between the soap, you'll end up with a lot of dirt in the bottom of the 'clean' bucket and the soapy bucket will have none, so you're washing the car with nothing but soapy water.

This is all to reduce swirling, spiderwebs etc. It is more noticeable on darker colours but they will still be visible on lighter cars in direct sunlight.

I use a brush all the time... if it's good for leather dress shoes and expensive horse saddles, it's good enough for leather seats!

I swear by 'Leatherique' products, been using it on the car seats & steering wheel for years now. Please google it for more info to see if it's right for you. You will be surprised how good the leather comes up.

So bought some auto glym leather cleaner and conditioner today,. And the dude at auto pro said baby wipes was the go for cleaning leather,... Anyone else heard this, or any comments,..

Kinda makes sense as baby wipes would tend to be non harsh on the skin??
