Thinking about putting some coilovers on my E3 Maloo, just wondering if anyone has done anything simillar to their
E3's and if they had any issues with the EDI system etc, after they did it.

Cheers,
Stuart

I'm also keen to know this, as Ive put coilovers in jap cars, but this is my first Aussie car. I want coilovers in my Maloo aswell but don't wana ruin the warranty as it only has 8k kms on it haha

Ive got Pedders coilovers on my my E3 clubby with Whiteline swaybars front & rear aswell as Superpro void bushes, no issues what so ever with the Edi & the handling is million times better defenitalty worth it imo.

Have you had any issues with the Pedders coil overs. My mate just had both rears fail at the same time. Only 2 months old. :(

I did have one of the strut tops fail @ 11months old, which Pedders covered under warranty no questions asked.

I do not trust Pedders, had major problems, got the run around with issues never fixed on previous car.

Messed me around until the warranty ran out.

They are just a bunch of armatures.

I have been told that Bilstein coil overs through Autotechnique are quite good.

Nothing beats Bilsteins.

I am keen on this topic also, spoke to the guys at autotechnique they have H&R Bilstein coilover set up for $2300 fitted, which is height adjustable but there is no dampening adustments. The horsepower factory have Bilstein coilovers which are both height/dampening adjustable for about $3200 fitted

That's what I am thinking of getting in the new year.

**** that's expensive! I've had tein and buddyclub coilovers on jap cars and both cost 1800 or less :-s

I don't think Tein are rebuild able though are they?

thanks for the replies,

The Teins should be going on early in the new year the bloke doing it in Toowoomba is really busy over Christmas.

Any suggestions on how far to drop the front and arse end of my maloo whilst retaining a slight amount of practicality (I'm aware that lowering it isnt practical, however theres low and then theres really low haha)

How much were they? I would get them again for my Maloo aswell

Just had my GTS lowered 20mm back and 10mm front with Bilsteins adjustable coilovers,
by lowering the back more than the front actually gives you more clearance in the front - by doing this it lilts the front up.

Haha yeah a little just have to think about what your doing, I actually have more trouble with the 3" Exhaust underneath than the height of the ute itself, but like I said as long as my ***aults are planned I dont have any issues getting in and out of places.

your car looks really good can you tell me how much you had it lowered,
I just had adjustable Bilstein with H &R coilovers had the rear lowered 20mm and the
front 10mm on 08 GTS thinking about dropping it a bit more.

Hi Mate,
I hope photos come through OK.

Sorry I took so long

I ended up lowering front and back by 10mm for now, it seems to have the best balance in handling, height clearance and ride.

Cheers

Looks awesome James!
Are yours damper adjustable aswell?
I actually meant the thread opener stezzy as he also has a ute. And I also am looking at getting tein super streets as my wheels are very aggressive so I need the damper adjust so if it scrubs it I'll stiffen it up so it doesn't ruin the guards :)
I'm looking to get them next week so I want him to reply ASAP lol!

No they are not damper adjustable just height adjustable but they really do handle and ride much better than the
MRC .
The Bilstein come with a 5 year warranty they are rebuildable and they can do them firmer.
A mate has a new C63 AMG Coupe with performance option and he was really surprised how well the car handles and rides.

They have rebound & compression adjustment via an internal self adjusting system, so they can be valved to suit your particular requirements, from memory when I spoke to the guys at VCM if you want H&R Bilstein coilovers that have both dampening and height adjustment you are looking at about $3.5-4K.

Wow! -4k for bilsteins! I think for that price I'd get tein monoflex, and the edfc controller so u can adjust the damper inside the car :-D

How do u get to the strut top at the rear? Lol
U happy with them?

Stezzy27
08-05-2012, 06:47 PM
Mate very sorry for the late reply got sent away for work.

Couldn't be happier with it ay basically nill body roll nice stiffness and importantly handles very well.

I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you about the strut top at the rear who are you thinking about getting to install they should be able to tell you. I have a hunch but I daresay theres someone on here who could tell you for certain.

Took a few happy snaps as well of ride height and such please excuse the quality took them with my iphone.

I was told maybe the damper can be adjusted from the bottom, which made me think lol I re looked at ur pics, and see the rear strut pic, is that the damper knob near the bottom in the middle?

VTi_b0i
09-05-2012, 02:44 PM
Actually that's the front shock. But see the knob? Looks like they're adjusted there, not the top of the strut like mine are on my civic.

Stezzy27
09-05-2012, 03:46 PM
haha you are correct the damper is adjustable. Hopefully when you set the damper your happy with it otherwise its a matter of taking off all the wheels and adjusting.

VTi_b0i
09-05-2012, 04:11 PM
Can't u squeeze ur hand thru the wheels? Lol im gona have very aggressive wheels so I'm getti g the damper adjust so I don't scrub too much, might take a bit of trial and error but once I find the right setting I doubt ill touch it again. I have coilovers In my turbo civic, once I found the right ride height, I have t touched either since lol! I've left the damper In the middle. Bout 7 or 8 out of 16 settings
