Howdy, we are about to drive from QLD to Vic in a few days time and wondering whats the best distance you have achieved from a tank of fuel?
My wife gets around 520 during the week driving to and from work , so it will be interesting to see what we get on a trip

My E3 GTS @ 100km/h in 6th with cruise on sits under 8l / 100km..so work that out

Don't think it will do that when the cam and blower go on :D

In 6th between 110-120 I'm doing between 9-10l/100km. I drive 200-250 a day and get about 560 on a tank, freeway driving. Straight e3gts

I usually get about 440 i do lots of 5k trips, we had 8.9l per 100k melb to adelaide but the 800 turned
into about 650 with some traffic, hills and full power taps. Just as good as our AFM model was on the open road.
we are about to do around 9000kms im thinking of logging the drive with a few photos.
day one will be melbouren to adelaide, we will be towing, doubt that will make much diff though.
(and I will have an emergency 10l in the boot for the alice springs leg)

Normally I drive down the centre of NSW (Newell Hwy) when we drive from Bris to Melb and its as boring as watching paint dry, so I usually do it at night, but this time we are having a 2 day stop over in Sydney, then arrive in Melb for xmas. So if anyones from Werribee, look out for the mad Queenslander...lol
Our old Ford did 800k on a tank and we could get down there on 2 and a bit tanks, but Im thinking this trip might cost a bit more :(

The WK will get 650Km easily on the long run. Used to do Wollongong - Kempsey or Gold Coast up the Pacific Hwy. I mainly fuel at convenience stops - with spouse in the car, these are more frequent. The car is often difficult to fuel; very prone to airlocks and not so easy to clear as the old Merc.

Never really worked out how far I got but the gauge read 9.7L on the trip from Cairns to Newcastle but now does 12L around town.

Should be a 2 stop trip from Melb - Bris starting with a full tank. Watch for pigs around Warrick (My brother got booked on the way in and out once :)) but it's pretty easy to fly under the radar for the rest of the way down the Newell. I usually leave Melb mid afternoon to get to Bris or the Gold Coast around 9 - 10:00 am. That is sitting at 120 km/h and stopping only for fuel and the odd pitstop. My E3 gets 9.x on the highway quite easily.

Done that run dozens of times - roads are quite good for most of the way. Qld always seem to have roadworks that take forever though.

Recently did a 5000km round trip accross the Nullarbor and back.
Some sections I drove purely for economy just to see how far a tank could get.
The best I did was 630km.

wow 630k, that confirms it. Its a 3 tank trip.
Thanks

The Nullarbor is a very flat and straight road so you may have to take that into account.

The most i travel in one hit is about 520km, and i usually have about a quarter tank left, So about 630 - 650km per tank would be right. It's a 73ltr tank in the VE, so if you hwy drive all the way @ 9.5 - 10 ltrs/100km you could push 700km maybe??? But if you have to slow down through a few towns etc, or get stuck behind a slow mooving vehicle, it all adds up.

My car is stock except for the exhaust, so fingers crossed I get near 700 k per tank

That's not good at all :(
Vy sv8 with cam and the usual boltons + 4:11 diff and manual averaged 8.4, with an average speed of 120+
Now work out the range:)
Car was fully loaded with Kida and holiday crap

We just drove from Bris to Taree. 638 k on 62 liters so it should be good for 700k out of a tank

Usually get anywhere from 300 to 400 round town in the maloo, really depends on how well behaved I am during the week. On the highway its about 500 to 600 with some left over in the tank. Really not as bad as what I thought I'd be dealing with when I bought it.

grange250
22-12-2011, 11:11 AM
In the WK I get a good run per tank but then the diff ration suits trip driving. 750 is normal on long runs. I have my fuel stops where the fuel is cheaper so don't usually run until I need it but the distance to go indicates 750 or more. Types of air filter can affect mileage achieved/petrol usage. K&N air filter reduces my mileage - they don't want to know.

Well we are 3 hours out of Melb on our trip down from Bris and have only refilled twice. We are getting around 600 k from 60 litre s easy and that's with lead foot sittin on 120 (not me) Which is good considering our boot is soooo full and we have 5 of us in the car. Who said V8's use too much fuel?

Interesting. Ive just done a 450k trip today. I filled tank when I left home, (leongatha) Had cruise control on 106 most of the time. Got to horsham tank still over half full and saying 450 k's left to go.

For people who are new to visiting Melbourne, from about 100 Km or so out, they have speed cameras mounted in the centre of the freeway at overp***es - no warning signs - not required in Vic.
The tolerance allowance is only one or two Km - not the 7 or 8 that NSW can enjoy. Check speedometer speed with GPS and set cruise control accordingly. North of Seymour, everything is normally fine.

We made 640kms towing a 500kg trailer, Melbourne towards Adelaide, we did a much better run without the
trailer North of Adelaide.

I can officially say now that we get between 680 and 700 per tank on a long trip, and thats with 2 adults, 3 kids and a boot that was sooooooo full we had trouble shutting it. The rear end was so low, but it looked cool :)
So from Brisbane to Geelong took 3 full tanks. Filled up at home and refilled twice on the way and arrived in Geelong empty.
Overall we though this was quite acceptable.

OK thought it would be interesting to add it up,

20th sept 2010 = 42400kms

8th Jan 2012 = 71000kms 3700 liters

So 28600 kms using 3700 liters BP98 = 7.73 km/L or 12.94 L/100kms

I am a lead foot, I only get to drive it on days off so give it shit most of the time and the wife drives pretty calm most of the time, she has racked up 70% of the k's.

We have seen 700km(long drive) on a tank and I've seen 450km (giving it stick) out of a tank

Glad I'm not paying full book for fuel !!! At an average of $1.60 per liter that would be $5920 worth of fuel, thats 4.83 kms per dollar or 21cents per K.

Ok to many figures, Fu$K it. I still luv drivin it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to newcastle and back on this weekend. Around about 400 or so kms in the end, including traffic getting through the harbour tunnel with the bridge shut. 9.9L per 100kms.
