I got the iphone holder from here.

http://www.holdmyphone.com.au

The one I have is the padded thru connect holder. This allows you to plug your existing cable into the bottom of the holder. There are two other types. No plug connection so you just plug your existing cable into the bottom of your phone. The other one is a choice of cigarrete lighter or usb connection built into the holder.

They're not cheap. $121 is just for the holder. You need to buy a mount also. You can get mounts specific to your car which clip on to the dash. I just used a bracket I had from an old holder and drilled into the side of the console.

Great system but I recon the phone in that location will not last long unless your under 5 feet tall or only drive about 5km at a time, id mount it elsewhere or higher, maybe it would then be out of sight though!
I have my navman mounted into the airvents used half of two mounting brackets from **** smiths, good spot and not in your line of sight. cheers

You're not the first person to say that but it works for me. I've always put my phone there on every car I've had. I never knock it and have to try to get my knee to touch it. I'm 6ft with long legs. It's an easy spot to use the phone from when selecting tunes and the neatest as far as running wiring to it.
