Well, Sniper has a few "Hideouts" around Australia and I will give them all a different Thread over time when I get more pics . . .

Probably my favorite hideout is Active Automotive in Perth WA . . . I have been friends with this tight knit Crew for 9 years . . .Eddy Tassone (Owner) , Bruno Tassone & Shane Stephen . . . all great characters, racers & good guys . . . and some of Australias most extreme street Commodores & HSV's are prepared by this crew!

. . . pics & youtubes to come . .

This is the latest vid out of the AA stable with Ed's missus's new GTS running a 11.03.

This GTS is pretty tame but runs a Magnussen PD Charger . . . but whatever way you look at it , that time on Street Tyres and Full Weight is impressive.

Unfortunately its probably grounded now due being 3/100's of a sec off needing a cage

Ahhh. . . the penny may have dropped!!!

I'm thinking your the owner of the "Built" 400+ CI weapon that made a fairly big number that day

. . . and you spent most of the day sitting on the stairs with your mate. . . that is a "Ford" man!!!

Or have I got it wrong and dropped my penny in the loo?

Lol...your penny is safe..We had a great day sitting up there trying to pick which car was going to run what HP.We had a couple of epic fails. The VR/VS SC V6 that ran 519 was a classic...You didn't happen to have something todo with the yellow GTS or is my penny in the loo.

. . . your penny is gone . . . there were 2 yellow GTS's there on the day if my memory serves me well . . The Shacks E3 Demo and Shane Stephen's GTS Coupe . . . and I look nothing like Shane . . .

. . . I flew in for the event with my eldest and a couple also flew in from Melb too.

This event will be on again this year but in late November rather than early December . . . and we will be there again. . . .

As the saeason closes for Drag Racing in WA . . . Ed took the workshop ute to the Plex for a blast

It is a 2008 VE1 LS3 Maloo "naturally aspirated"

It was driven to the track and fitted with slicks for the pass . . . 10.91

now thats a tough streeter with just a Cam (a big bastard) and springs, manifold, OTR and Full Exhaust . . . its a manual with a twin plate clutch!

Hopefully a Youtube will surface soon and I will post it!!!

Pretty much every weekend I have yarn with Ed about the latest happenings at Active Automotive . . . a week ago he told me that they had 43 cars in the workshop . . . I actually struggled to comprehend this but I did get some photograpic proof. . . yesterday he was down to 31 . . .but plenty more to come!!

There are some damn fine and busy workshops around Australia that specialise in the LS Industry . . . but I am yet to find one that is as respected and busy as Active Automotive.

To keep up on the latest from Active Automotive just join their Facebook Page!!!!

http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=283971171651945&set=t.100001171939824&type=1&theater

Its an LS3 A6 Maloo with a small Cam and Magnussen 2300 Charger that belongs to Eddy's cousin Giovanni. . . . 10.6 . . full weight . . 20' tyres . . . now that is Impressive

A substancial amount of "Trans Tuning" at the Plex resulted in a full second gain down the Quarter!

Well, I've been to Perth and Back and it was yet another interesting trip . . . .we spent all day monday sorting out the new mezanine level . . . throwing out excess stuff & painting . . . .

Essentially for those that have been to AA in the past. . . . the office is relocated . . . . the old office has doubled in size and become a showroom with nice counters and wall display plus ceramic tiles on the floor . . .

The engine building room has now doubled also and has new stainless benches and an Epoxy floor!

The place is slowly becomming something pretty special . . . there are now 10 dedicated workbays with 8 hoists . . plus the dyno. . . plus the Exhaust section . . . . I will be back to AA in about 4 weeks for a look to see if all the plans have finally come together . . . but I can say , Ed is determined to make AA the best place in OZ for the LSX Market . . . and he is definately on route to achieving this

Just returned from another 2 day visit to AA . . . the workshop upgrades are virtually all done . . . . looks good with the new Showroom and schmick Engine Build room.

Lots of new stuff in place since I was last there (about 4 weeks) inc new shop counter . . . heaps of tool boxes in the Engine Room and shelving for stock upstairs on the new expanded Mezzanine level

The workshop floor got totally repainted in Luxepoxy over the last 2 days and look awesome

The Yellow GTO is coming together nicely . . . . and the workshop had some tough stuff lying around

There is always sometning that surprises me . . . something that I am not expecting when I get there . . . this visit was a Tough Phantom Black E1 Maloo getting a Twin Turbo Upgrade with a 433 CI LRR Eddy Built Monster . . . Ed said it will make 1400rwhp on the Street . . . and you can take that as a given. . . . the Turbo fabrication and Exhaut work was mint . . .

There is also a Green E1 Maloo betting built . . . . this has had one of those "Now Famous" Hidden Cages fitted so it can run into the 9's as a Streeter. . . . its also getting a big cube combo. . .

. . . . and I think some of my shitters with 500RWHP are fast . . lol. . . . someone tell me I'm dreaming!!!!

I reckon that if you can get yourself . . (and me) . . to Perth "Business Class" . . I'll get your ass in the drivers seat of Ed's . . . you'll know your alive when you lean on his GTS . . .

. . . But you'll need to win the guess first . . .

That is very possible, The domestic "business class" is the only sticking point!!

I think differently . . a stock 317 makes 254!!! . . . . The LSA 430 makes about 36% more power than the 317. . . 345 is what the maths say . . . but the Auto & Manuals read differently . . . Drew may be very close . . .

Interesting prediction mate . . it will be pretty hard to wring that number out of a 1900 blower but if Ed is as good as I think he is . . . who knows . . but to get that number it will need a "Pulley and a Cam" . . . and I am sure Ed will give it both . . . hmm . . . 2 weeks . . Lol. . . I'd say 2 days . . .

. . . although I have requested he do this project in stages and a YouTube of each progressive stages!! . . . . but sadly, he doesn't have much patience so it will probably all happen at once . .

The official results as per the FaceStalk page are;
STOCK = back to back runs of 464rwhp and 467rwhp so 350rwkw
TUNE ONLY = just shy of 500rwhp so 375rwkw

To be honest I was expecting a much more significant gain from the tune.

Hey Eddy. Pics of skids didn't load mate :D

in that case 342.9 RWKW.... :D Do I get to have a drive in one if I win???

I chose Eddy to tune my car over Mitch @ WAPerf due to reputation and results. And you can't really fault either guy.
So dont go putting words in my mouth or insinuating shit.

I just thought we would see similar gains that the Coyote enjoyed, eg, bloody cheap horsepower per dollar.

Something else to consider, here's a fairly current listing of the 500-hp club, pretty impressive line up. So we need not be too disappointed....

Given the Camaro ZL1, our donor engine, is quoted at 580hp, then I guess they're talking flywheel hp (and US hp at that, rather than SAE). Why can't everyone use kw? I know, because people are used to hp... and America has the biggest drag scene etc. etc.

Oh I should have added some of these wouldn't even make 500 RWHP!

Well it was quoted like I was having a dig at him and/or the result. Obviously I took offence to that, apologies for turning into the incredible angry ant :)
All I want to see is the area under the curve anyway, cause the peak number being 50-odd go higher means bigger all if there's +100hp/100Nm at 3000rpm :D

Take it to a.p.s performance in Frankston...those guy's will be able to help you out...!

In the end there are probably only 10 tuners in the country that I would trust with my car .. . obviously I have Ed at the top of my list as I have "had to endure" late nights at Active Automotive both on the Dyno and touring around the back streets of Canningvale holding a laptop whilst Ed get things like "off idle" and "low/mid range" tuning perfect . . . obviously he doesn't need to do this to every car as with packages that he has developed he then has on "tune file" . . but anything with a Cam needs extra "due diligence" .

. . . but having said that, hsv.286 is correct . . . I know Luis the "head tuner" at APS Frankston and he is one very sharp tuner . . . that many on this forum have used . . . go introduce yourself to him and say hi from me . . Luis is across all the current crop of Tuning program's and would probably use EFI Live on your car which is arguable better (more comprehensive) than VCM!!! . . in my personal opinion

Agree 100% Nitrate, 500 RWHP (500+ by the time Ed finishes his tuning) with just a tune for a daily driver will keep me happy for awhile, then when I get bored with that, another trip to Ed's for a supercharger upgrade kit, cold air intake, exhaust, not to mention the drive train can handle every day, I'm very happy with that. Just can't wait.

Why is ED the best?

I said . . . he is on the top of "my" list!!! . . . but having said that I have spent many an hour with him to understand the way he thinks . . . and that is why I have him on a pedestal . . .

. . and lets be frank - he is a personal friend and I have never hidden that fact on here and never will . . . !!

I am old cchool . . . If you can't tune a carby and recurve a dissy with points or build an engine to perform via specialised tweaks like custom Cam timing - ie - dialling in a cam in advanced or retarded sequence . . . you cannot . . . or cannot be expected to know how an engine works

. . . . the very first thing people that tune cars need to understand is that and engine is an "Airpump" . . . nothing more and nothing less . . . it how you make that Airpump work is what counts . . . but first you must understand what parameters are confined in the particular Airpump to understand how to achieve the ultimate tune . . . and that is what sort the "men from the boys" . . . .

For fear of starting a shit fight I would ideally luv to list my preferred tuners in this country - but that would be very political so I comment when necessary and post on here the facts that I have "available" to me

Eddy Tassone just happens to be one of those "top Ten" and gets exposure because he is prepared to "have a go" . . . and I am privvy to much of his activity and when its pertinent I can and will post that data on here for others to enjoy . . . . . debate/ponder/acknowledge . .

I am sure we all have our preferred mechanics/tuners, how they come to be preferred can be any number of reasons.
I also have my own who I have known for a very long time, spent countless hours at the shop with 'after hours' and thus hold in high steed.

We're not here to debate who is the best in the land but to give others insight as to why we think of them the way they do certainly isn't a bad thing.

+1. You know given there is alot of talk in this thread and others on 'best tuners' in a specific state. Why not have a Folder that details known tuners (in no specific 'he/she is better than the other' order ...) in each state. A ready go-to list for Forum members? Easier than continually seeing requests month after month? Mod??

white_lie
22-09-2013, 03:50 PM
Not a bad idea for a sticky thread! I'm a big fan of having a sticky that details the general process of stages of mods, expected power levels at each stage etc. Definitely wouldn't hurt to have a list of high quality workshops/tuners in that thread for recommendations as to who to see in your state to carry out the work.

The latest project car out of he Active Stable is a VFSS Ute that is one hell of a car

It was built to be the first 9 Sec SC VF and in its first pass achieved that goal

The thing is really nice to drive and very docile . . . it has a specially built 414 CI LS3 with all the usual tricky gear that Eds customers get inc a custom "Rotating Assembly" . . . it also runs a 2.9 Whipple charger that looks really neat under the bonnet - the same unit that GM has fitted as an option on the 2014 COPO Camaro . . .

Geez . . . this is an old thread . . .I see that new members are posting questions about shops and tuning in WA and there are plenty of opinions

Like White Lie has suggested elsewhere on the forum there are a few good "tune shops" in WA and he is damn correct

The essential difference between Eddy Tassone and others is R&D !!!. . . he has spent more time and money than any other tuner in Aus developing combos and tuning data for the LS engine and I have spent many an hour (when visiting Ed) watching and observing his talent . . . but it's not up to me to be the ultimate judge - that's for you guys buy I do understand that when spending the best part of $100 on a new HSV you want some real advice and personal service . . .

Don't hesitate to call Active and ask to talk to Ed direct - just tell them that I said so and get thru to him - discuss exactly what you want to achieve - or better still go down to Tulloch Way and take one of his demo fleet for a spin - you will not be disappointed with the service and approach . . .
