Hi,

I'm planning to put my deposit down on a GXP in the next few weeks. I wanted a fun track day car under $70k. Hence will end up supercharging it and all that, spoke to walkinshaw and they're confident it can be as fast or faster than an R8.

However I was wondering if anyone knows the specific differences between the Cluby R8 and the GXP?
I know holden have said different brakes/suspension and rear end.
But that was back in December therefore I was hoping someone had some updated information regarding the differences.

Online articles I read suggest only basic aircon and audio - probably not an issue for a track car.

$69,950 and you not only get an R8E2 clubby dude.
I got Bi-Modal, 20s and Leather included.
Oh and a pretty little red SV enhanced badge.
There you go, your problems are solved.
Besides that you will need to get in quick cause
the GXP is a limited run. They must be testing the demand.

No LED rear lights, no AP brakes, standard suspension settings, narrower rims, no launch control on manuals - that's about the crux of it.

Given that in time I am most likely to upgrade the brakes/rims/suspension the only issue i see is the lack of launch control.
As if i get the GXP for $60k and then in time spend another $20k on the supercharger, brakes, suspension, tires i figure i'll be as fast or faster than the clubsport with same mods which would be costing an extra $10k?

What, faster than an R8 that has the same blower etc? How do you figure that? A weight factor? Call me stupid but what engine will the GXP have?

^^ He is dead right mate!
If you got HSV to price up all the extras the R8 has it will probably come to arround 20k

Yeah but why would a blown GXP be faster than a blown Clubby? Sorry but I'd just like to know 'coz I'm feeling like I've just dropped 20 IQ points somewhere along the line.

I think the GXP is a good package.
Full HSV driveline, 4 spot Brembo brakes, 19" rims, & the interior looks ok too.......if you want an HSV, and you want HSV LS3 grunt, but not the all of the fruit, or if you simply don't want to pay Clubsport dollars, then this car is the way to go.

The rear end looks much more classy but the fact that it doesn't come in leather has pretty much killed it for me...
Looks like I'll be getting a Clubsport R8 now!
Thanks anyway for the discussion :)

Leather?......not a problem. A friend of mine has a Calais SSV & he wanted better seats, so he had leather made up IDENTICAL to GTS, & he had Calais SSV embroidered into the covers where GTS would normally be....bolsters & everything else is the same as the factory product..cost was $1500.
Cheers, Pickles.

No worries. Auto Image Thomastown. speak to Sam.
03 94641157. My friend told me that he's extremely happy, & that he believes the leather is of a better quality than the factory product. Let us know how you go.

I know this topic is a bit old but it seemed like the best spot to post.

Anyone considering a GXP, now is the time to buy. I just bought mine (in VIC) for $50,790 drive away Sting Red - Manual with rear park assist, 1600kg tow bar and tint.

I started looking back in June and the best price I had back then for the same was just over $56,000.

Now I just have to wait until my current lease is up to get it! :(
