Hi HSVers,
I'm looking at buying a VQ 5000i HSV, at least that's what the guy selling it tells me it is. What checks can I do to verify that it's original and not a butchered backyard job. It's supposed to be 200KW and I thought that they where only made available in the anthracite color, this one is white. Should I take it to a HSV Holden dealer for a check up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Forget taking it to a HSV dealer. They dont know anything.
Get the VIN number type it into this site and it will tell you what it is. Then just make sure the vin belongs to that car.

Cheers for the link to HSV. It turns out that it's plates are correct and it's real deal. Made an offer and waiting to see if I am the best offer. Will post some pics if I'm the victor.:D

It would also be smart to do a Vcheck. I found a few repaired write offs while I was searching for my HSV. At least you know to look for any dodgy repairs that way. Will also show if the engine has been changed at any stage if you get the full history.

If the car is white it may not be a 5000i but a sv200 pack. Here is some pics of one, add claims sv90. The sv200 pk was basically a sv 90 pack car, apparently 10 built that I have read of.

The 5000i were 2 tone anthrite over grey except one which was Caprice based or the 3 pilot hsv cars. From car 42 from memory the interior colour changed slightly. Has seen a few variations that have turned out to be real, including a all anthrite model. As above check it with the link. Dont be suprised if it cannot make a dead on match as the earlier cars dont show up as well as later cars. It will give you the closest match to the car the site has. If you can post some pics, can help you out a bit with what should definitly be there.
