Hi guy and girls , im new to this forum and im on the hunt for a VX, VY clubsport.

I've been offered a DEC 2001 VX SII clubsport, 6spd, 100k's, lowered, 20's, full exhaust, tint, CAI, stereo etc.. redin colour and in good cond, swap for my '1999' 100 series GXL landcruiser, value 24k.

Been doing a read and just wondering about the whole piston slap in the LS1's....

What models did it happen to and when was the problem fixed???

Cheers Kevin

I was worried about it when looking for my VY clubby, the one i got had piston slap fixed under warranty, its a late 2002 so it goes that far as far as i know... I thought it was only a VY problem, though i'm not sure about that. At any rate i'd have any used car you buy checked out by a mechanic prior to sale if you can, its worth it for your peace of mind if nothing else.

If it is a HSV and if it had piston slap, then it has probably been rectified by now.

Check the engine number if it is anything other than VF99xxxxxxx or VF00xxxxxxxx, it has had a replacement engine fitted. Otherwise it may have had a rebuild, or, it may simply not have had the problem.

Plenty of people -who have never owned a LS1-engined car - criticise and tell horror stories, yet, the issue is well and truly gone from these engines now.

cheers,

Macca

Cant say i know much about LS1's but am in the process of learning.

I personally dont think this motor has any probs, runs sweet as , no noises etc....

Was just reading about ls1's and read it some where, was just curious to know what models this happened to.

Other thatn that im on my way to owning my 1st HSV, cant wait :P

I've been offered a DEC 2000 VX SII clubsport, 6spd, 100k's.............

Dec VX 2000 is not a Series II, the series II started from Sep/Oct 2001 until the Aug/Sep where the 15th anniversary model came out(Which is still a Series II), the VY started from Oct 2002

I have had mine since June 2001 and it is a Dec 2000 VX R8 and have never had any excessive oil burnning or piston slap issues... guess I was lucky.

From my understanding, it was a problem since the VT-VX. If the car was affected, Im sure it would be fixed by now.

I found out mine was rebuilt by holden at 50,000km's prior to buying it. It's now done 82,000 and has no noise or oil burning issues.
