Hey guys iv always wanted a clubsport and have finally came up with the money to get one after blowing most of it on an SLR/5000..

I have made decision on the model which is a VY and have found 2 that i like, the problem is im having trouble deciding which one to get..

One is a 2002 VY series 1 R8 the other is a 2004 VY series 2 and not an R8.. im leaning more towards the VY R8, But I would like to hear other peoples oppinion on why and why i shouldnt choose one or the other or anyone with experience with the two would be much appreciated thanks.

Heres some pictures of the 2.

How many kays on each? any mods done? The '04 looks a better colour but the '02 has a better interior from the looks. You sure you want an auto? And where are you already leaning towards?

The '04 only has 36114 ks and '02 is 94401 ks.. pretty sure there they are both pretty standard which is what im looking for as id like to do the mods myself..

The colour was a real issue with me since the colour of the '04 is exactly what i wanted, and i already have a green SLR/5000, but now im not really fussed and could put up with the green..

I'v got 2 Manuals an old vt and a Torana, iv recently been driving my rents GTS which is an auto and just thought id get an Auto this time around since iv started to get lazy with the gears.

What i was leaning towards has changed quite abit i was originally going for the '04 285kw.. it was the colour i wanted low ks, only real problem i was looking for an r8....

Now I'v changed my mind and am thinking of the '02 because of it being an r8 and interior etc looks alot nicer.

Well I'v found exactly what i wanted at the auctions only thing it's manual which i can deal with.. But It ticks all the right boxes! VY, series 2, R8, low KS and is a good colour..

What do you guys think? hopefully i can get it come auction time.

welcome mate, i was in the same boat - R8 option or not. both cars were side by side, took both for a drive - no difference.

R8 interior had leather, binnacles something else over the non R8. seeing as though i have young kids, i didn't want the leather to be scuffed or possibly scratched/torn, couldn't have cared less about the binnacles so i went the non R8 which was about 4 g's dearer.

mine still stock except for GTS air box and 4 inch maf pipe and lowered kings suspension.

below are some pics of mine - btw is possibly for sale - not trying to flog it to you though. i'd go the blue one mate, nicer looking. you won't find any performance difference between them, but i think the 02 model R8 only came out in the 260kw and the 04 is 285kw...someone else might be able to confirm or deny. badging on the car will tell, but i didn't look that hard at the pics.

Looks nice and hopefully you'll get it for a good price at auction. The only thing is, make sure you inspect it very carefully for repairs etc as I saw some dodgy cars at the auctions when I was looking.

mate, i love my car to bits, it is an absolute pleasure to drive around town and especially in the country. don't get a sore rear end after hours of driving.

it is pleasing to know that when the foot is put down, there is a response.

reason for selling is basically to assist with the mortgage, have bought a new house recently but the interest rate hikes are taking somewhat of a toll. the fuel doesn't worry me co' also i'm riding to work most days as i only live about 5 k's from work, so it also is not getting used a lot anymore.

anyway mate good luck with the auction, you won't regret it either car.

With anything, I reckon go for the latest you can afford, but, there can be exceptions to that rule also.

The R8 has better seats, climate control, better brakes, etc over a Clubby.

There are only minor differences between VY and VY2 and the same engine is used, there were intake/exhaust and PCM calibration differences that increased the power to 285kw in the Series 2.

A nice exhaust upgrade and PCM tune will see the output of both models at a similar level.

Good luck with it in any event.

Cheers,

Macca

mine has climate control and it isn't an R8, in fact all series two vy base model clubby's came with climate control. VY2 also has better headers over s1.

yes, true there is no real difference between R8 and base clubbys once same mods are done to the cars.

My bad, sorry about that one - it was the VX series where the R8 had climate, but the Clubby did not.

yeah i've noticed that myself, i've always loved the VX shape but wondered why the VX clubby never had climate, instead of just the R8..

would've though it be a standard feature across the HSV range.

Personally i would go for the 04' one it has lower km's and maybe a better history always a good idea to check the history of a car before buying it if possible.

Go the 04 it has better headers, and a dual 2.5 inch exhaust, series 1 has 2 and a 1/4 inch system. Also it has far less k's on it.
